I thought it would be a nice idea if a few of us got together to do sketchbooks in the same way, but instead of sending them off we posted pictures of our pages onto a FLICKR site I would create called SKETCHBOOK FRIENDS.
I've been asked "What sort of book should I use". Its entirely upto the individual. Use any book, any size.
This is the one I have decided on, its 6"x6" spiral bound. I may use it with the spiral at the top.
With a spiral bound book you can snip out the pages to work on them. Great if you use watercolours, collage, stitch or cutwork. It also allows you to choose the order of the pages.
There is a list of possible themes on the Flickr page or make one up of your own.
If you want to join in all you need to do is get a book, choose a theme (If you want one), sign up to Flickr if you have'nt already or just add a link to your blog showing your sketchbook pages in the comments section below.
. There are no deadlines, no weekly/monthly commitments. Just do your book as and when you want.
Well friends I've got plenty of blank pages and I should be setting an example to you all. So sign up for email notification of when Ive been working on my pages. I keep changing my mind about my theme. I might go for "MIX & MATCH" or "PAGE AFTER PAGE" or "TURNING PAGES" or "AS THE MOOD TAKES ME".
Crikey i think I better pull one out of a bag.
Lets see if we can make it work and have some fun doing it.

Hi Lynn, This is going to be soo much fun. I haven't settled o a theme yet either. I keep swinging between In A Few Minutes, Buttons & Bows & Hearts and Flowers. BUt I also quite fancy Along The Line and Dots and Spots......Yikes! Haha. Hmm, maybe I better get the titfer out and let the wee man select one. I'll be over to order my book once peace reigns after bedtime, it's been a long day shopping in Aberdeen. But good fun and very fruitful :-D

Awh glad you like it Mo. Let's hope we can make it all slip into place and run smoothly.
DeleteChoosing a theme seems to be the hardest bit x
Its a good idea.
ReplyDeleteGoing to have a look at Flickr.
We are just getting started. Hope you can join us.

I'm looking forward to taking part, off to look at the themes hope one jumps out at me! :)
ReplyDeleteThat was the hardest bit for me Von. Good luck :)

Hi Lynn,
ReplyDeleteyes please, I'd like to join in too.I have been neglecting my drawing, and I feel like I need to get back to it.Is it ok if I just Zentangle?
Judy
Hi Judy
DeleteOh yes that's wonderful, glad to have you along. My friend Gillian is a keen zentangler so she is sure to be excited to see your drawings.

Lynn, thanks for your invitation on my blog, to join in here. I'm afraid my current art journal isn't on a theme as such, but just painting what comes to mind! (The "Butterfly-brained" bit in my blog title is more true than I care to admit...)
ReplyDeleteI am also working on another long-term project (only done 2 pages as yet) - a fine art album, depicting in mixed media, all my favourite works from the history of European Art.
I also do zentangle and have a rough sketchbook type journal for that, which is a reference guide with step-by-step instructions for various patterns, which is a total muddle and becoming increasingly difficult to navigate as it fills up. I am about to do something in a different format which might qualify as a sketch book or art journal.
Flickr is not behaving for me today. No pictures are visible. Our broadband speed is c**p which may have something to do with it. I will upload some pics soon.
Meantime, my blog is http://shoshiplatypus.blogspot.com
Shoshi
Hi Shoshi
DeleteSo glad youve come to join us. Don't worry about the theme or it even being one book. It's more about sharing the pages in your book or books that you like. Any style, any medium it matters not. Just enjoy the journey,
Lynn
I can't get Flickr to work. I try to create a new set, and the "save" button is greyed out. Also, depsite what they say about an "upload" button being present on every Flickr page, this is nowhere to be found. I don't think the wretched thing is loading properly. I've been having problems seeing any photos anywhere on Flickr, apart from a few thumbnails. Anyone else experiencing such problems? It's driving me Nuuuuts.
ReplyDeleteShoshi
Crikey Shoshi you are having a right day of it with Flickr. I'm not technical and can only suggest checking your settings.
DeleteIf you can't get it to work email me your images and I will load them for you.
