SKETCHBOOK FRIENDS seems to be really taking off, with people adding their book pages to FLICKR already.

There are contributions from
Carolyn Saxby
Yvonne Moxon
Marcia Beckett
Annis Art
Be sure to have a look what they are doing by linking across to the FLICKR GROUP sidebar.

I got hold of a book called SKETCHBOOK CHALLENGE by Sue Bleiweiss,

its a great one for anyone new to creating books and full of tips for those who have done them before.
THIS IS ONLY AN IMAGE

A friend of mine Susan, who is new to sketchbooking is going to do a review of it which we will feature.
Has anyone else got this book, if so what do you think of it ?

SKETCHBOOK OR JOURNAL

WELCOME

We are getting a great response to the new blog and I am finding some really good inspirational ones for us to look at.  Click on the picture to see Marcia Becketts.

Ideas are coming in for different techniques to use and I am coming across some good sketchbook PINTEREST boards.

Whether you call your book a SKETCHBOOK or a JOURNAL or by any other name it matters not.  Its what you put inside it that matters and that only matters to you.  Its your book, do what you want with it.

Here are some pages I did after attending a workshop of Kay Greenlees.
You can see a link to her book opposite.

Remember we all work in different ways.
Its exciting to see what people come up with

Don't forget add a link to your blog in the comments box and I will load up your pics or add them  to our FLICKR group.

SKETCHBOOK FRIENDS FIRST PAGES

I started my sketchbook still without a theme in mind but feeling compelled to get out the little Olivetti typewriter my sister gave me.

And that is where the first page came from

I love collage but at this point I felt more attracted to textiles than drawing so out came an old embroidery booklet that I have been wanting to cut up for a while and that started me off.  Next I dug out the piece of antique crochet and that was the start of it, my first pages.

You can see  a little cut out piece of text at the top of the book, it says
"IN THIS BOOK"
that is my theme/title  the idea came to me like a bolt out of the blue.

Mo Allan's blank book is on its way to her and I can't wait to see what she does with it.

If you want to join our SKETCHBOOK FRIENDS
then get yourself a book, decide on a theme and do whatever comes naturally to you.  Then photograph your pages and either post a link on to this blog or add them to our FLICKR page.  You can post as often as you like, whenever you like.

SKETCHBOOK FRIENDS GET STARTED

I took part in the Brooklyn Sketchbook Project this year.  A challenge to create a sketchbook with a given theme.  Mine was "NOTHING NEW".  You were left to interpret this in any way you wanted, using any medium.

After it was finished it was put in a library of thousands of sketchbooks that then toured round the world.  I went to London to catch up with mine and to see the work of others I had been following on the webpage.

I thought it would be a nice idea if a few of us got together to do sketchbooks in the same way, but instead of sending them off we posted pictures of our pages onto a FLICKR site I would create called SKETCHBOOK FRIENDS.

I've been asked "What sort of book should I use".   Its entirely upto the individual.  Use any book, any size.
This is the one I have decided on, its 6"x6" spiral bound.  I may use it with the spiral at the top.

With a spiral bound book you can snip out the pages to work on them.  Great if you use watercolours, collage, stitch or cutwork.  It also allows you to choose the order of the pages.

There is a list of possible themes on the Flickr page or make one up of your own.
If you want to join in all you need to do is get a book, choose a theme (If you want one), sign up to Flickr if you have'nt already or just add a link to your blog showing your sketchbook pages in the comments section below.
.  There are no deadlines, no weekly/monthly commitments.  Just do your book as and when you want.

Well friends I've got plenty of blank pages and I should be setting an example to you all.  So sign up for email notification of when Ive been working on my pages.  I keep changing my mind about my theme.  I might go for "MIX & MATCH" or "PAGE AFTER PAGE" or "TURNING PAGES" or "AS THE MOOD TAKES ME".
Crikey i think I better pull one out of a bag.

Lets see if we can make it work and have some fun doing it.
